I had the privilege of attending the Terry Fox Run hosted by Kasiga School on April 13, 2025, along with 23 of my peers. The event was organized to raise awareness and funds for cancer research in collaboration with the Indo-Canadian Cancer Research Foundation. It was a phenomenal experience that united participants from numerous schools in Dehradun and Mussoorie, all unanimously devoted towards this noble cause.
The run began early in the morning at 7:00 a.m., with an electrified atmosphere, a result of the passion displayed by the participants. The course was approximately 2.5 kilometers long, allowing participants to walk, jog, or skate at their own pace. This inclusivity mirrored the essence of the Terry Fox Run, which emphasizes participation over competition. The atmosphere was exhilarating, filled with enthusiasm and camaraderie as each stride by the students felt like a step towards the long path to curing cancer.
The Terry Fox Run is an annual global event held in honor of Terry Fox, a Canadian cancer activist who embarked on his Marathon of Hope in 1980, running across Canada to raise funds for cancer research. His legacy continues to inspire millions worldwide, and events like these serve as powerful reminders of his determination and vision for a future without cancer. Kasiga School’s initiative was particularly impactful as it brought together young minds to actively engage in philanthropy and community service.
After the run, we were also treated to a delicious breakfast by Mr. Rashid Sharfuddin, Headmaster of The Kasiga School. It was a truly remarkable experience, and we also got a chance to Interact with the president of the Indo – Canadian cancer research foundation and the decorated actor, Mr. Rahul Bose, who attended the run. He is well known for starring in movies like Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli.
The Terry Fox Run was more than just an event; it was a movement that inspired hope and action. It reminded us of the importance of working together for meaningful causes and highlighted how collective efforts can lead to significant change. As a student from SelaQui International School, I am proud to have been part of this initiative and look forward to participating in similar events in the future.
